Job Overview
Location: Haliburton, Ontario
Structure: Two-storey detached house
Problem: Mouse activity reported inside the home
Service: Interior mouse treatment and exterior exclusion
Visits: 3
Summary
We responded to reports of mouse activity within a residential home in Haliburton. Our team completed a full inspection, applied an interior mouse treatment, and later carried out exterior exclusion work after approval. Follow-up confirmed the activity had stopped and the structure remained secure.
Background / Property Context
The property is a two-storey detached house with wood siding and roofline features typical of rural residential construction in the area. Ground-level gaps and upper soffit transitions were present and required close inspection.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported ongoing mouse activity within the home and requested inspection and treatment to address the issue and prevent further entry.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial inspection, our technician identified multiple potential rodent entry points along the lower siding and roofline. Small gaps were visible at siding transitions and soffit areas. Interior signs were consistent with mouse activity in accessible areas of the home.
Photos taken during inspection show:
- Gaps at the base of exterior siding near ground level
- Soffit and roofline areas with visible openings and staining
- Nesting material present within a soffit cavity
- Sections of perforated soffit screening requiring sealing
Cause Analysis
Mouse activity was likely enabled by small construction gaps along siding and soffit interfaces. These openings can allow mice to access wall cavities, especially in cooler seasons when shelter is sought. Once inside, interior conditions supported continued activity until entry points were addressed.
Treatment / Removal
Interior mouse treatment was completed during the first visit. Tamper-resistant bait stations were placed in areas of identified activity. All pest control work was performed by a licensed exterminator in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines.
Exclusion & Repairs
After approval, exterior exclusion work was completed during the second visit. Approximately 150 linear feet of siding gaps were sealed using appropriate exterior-grade materials. Identified access points along the siding and roofline were closed to prevent rodent entry.
Outcome & Confirmation
On the final visit, the homeowner reported no further mouse activity in the home or attic. A follow-up inspection confirmed the exclusion remained intact and effective. No additional rodent issues were found within the structure at that time.
Technician Notes
The work was completed by our technician, Grant. Interior treatment was completed first, followed by approved exterior exclusion on a subsequent visit. Final confirmation showed the measures taken were successful, and no further activity was observed.
