Job Overview
Location: Haliburton, Ontario
Structure: Detached single-story house
Problem: Squirrel activity reported in the attic
Service: Squirrel removal and exclusion
Visits: 2
Summary
Our team at Pest Control Haliburton completed a two-visit squirrel removal at a detached single-story home after the homeowner reported repeated attic noises. An exterior roofline inspection identified multiple access points along the drip edge. Humane one-way doors were installed, followed by full exclusion work and a confirmation visit to ensure the activity had stopped.
Background / Property Context
The property is a single-story detached house with asphalt shingles, soffits, and multiple roofline intersections. These features can present vulnerable gaps along the drip edge where wildlife may gain access if materials loosen over time.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported hearing sounds in the attic, primarily during overnight and early morning hours, consistent with squirrel movement above the ceiling space.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial visit, our technician conducted both exterior and interior inspections. Two separate entry points were identified along the drip edge. Additional soffit intersections showed gaps that could allow continued or future wildlife access if left unsealed.
Cause Analysis
Squirrels commonly access attics by exploiting weaknesses along roof edges and soffit intersections. Drip edges and transition points can loosen due to weather exposure and age, creating openings suitable for climbing wildlife. Elevated rooflines also provide squirrels with safe, consistent access routes.
Treatment / Removal
Humane, non-lethal squirrel removal methods were used. Two one-way doors were installed at the identified entry points along the drip edge, allowing squirrels to exit the attic space without re-entry. No trapping or lethal measures were used.
Exclusion & Repairs
Twelve soffit intersections were sealed using galvanized steel mesh to prevent further access. Screening was securely fastened to conform to the roofline while maintaining proper ventilation. All work was completed during the first visit once approved on site.
Outcome & Confirmation
On the second visit, the homeowner confirmed that all attic activity had ceased. Our technician removed both one-way doors and re-inspected the exclusion work. No further wildlife activity was observed or reported, and the job was confirmed complete.
Technician Notes
Grant performed both service visits, completing the inspection, installation of one-way doors, and all exclusion work. Final inspection confirmed that entry points were secured and no additional access areas were present.
