Job Overview
Location: Haliburton, Ontario
Structure: Detached two story house
Problem: Morning attic noises consistent with squirrel activity
Service: Squirrel removal and full exterior exclusion
Visits: 2 visits
Summary
Our team completed a two-visit squirrel removal and exclusion service after attic noises were reported during morning hours. An exterior roof inspection identified access through roof vents. Humane one-way doors were installed, followed by comprehensive vent and soffit screening. A return visit confirmed activity had ceased and all temporary devices were removed.
Background / Property Context
The property is a detached two-storey home with multiple roof penetrations, wall vents, and extended soffit runs. The surrounding environment includes mature trees close to the roofline, increasing wildlife access to upper elevations.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported recurring sounds in the attic during the morning, suggesting active wildlife movement above the living space.
Inspection & Findings
An exterior and interior inspection focused on the roofline and attic access points. Evidence indicated squirrel entry through a roof vent. Additional vulnerable areas included multiple roof vents, wall vents, plumbing vents, gable vents, and long sections of soffit that were accessible from nearby structures and trees.
Photos show roof and wall vents fitted with metal vent covers and cages, soffit areas screened with galvanized mesh, and one-way doors temporarily installed over identified entry points. Where visible, fasteners and mesh appear securely anchored to existing building materials.
Cause Analysis
Squirrels commonly exploit roof vents and other elevated openings when they are unscreened or lightly protected. Proximity of trees to the roof provided easy access routes. Multiple vent types increased the likelihood of secondary entry once initial access was established.
Treatment / Removal
Humane, non-lethal removal was performed using species-appropriate one-way doors installed over the active roof vent entry point. This allowed squirrels to exit the attic space without re-entry. The work was carried out by our trained wildlife technician, Grant, following standard safety procedures.
Exclusion & Repairs
To prevent recurrence, comprehensive exclusion was completed:
- One-way doors installed over the active roof vent (temporary)
- Four roof vents sealed with galvanized steel cages
- Two wall vents sealed with galvanized steel cages
- Two plumbing vents sealed with galvanized steel cages
- Two gable vents sealed with galvanized steel mesh
- Approximately fifty-five feet of soffit sealed with galvanized steel mesh
Installed materials were fitted flush to the structure and mechanically fastened to resist wildlife intrusion.
Outcome & Confirmation
At the follow-up visit, the homeowner confirmed that all attic activity had ceased. The technician removed the one-way doors and performed a final inspection of all exclusion points. No further wildlife activity was reported, and the service was completed successfully.
Technician Notes
Grant completed a full exterior and interior inspection during the initial visit, identified the primary roof vent entry point, and implemented immediate containment and exclusion measures. The second visit confirmed resolution and allowed for removal of temporary devices after successful squirrel eviction.
