Job Overview
Location: Haliburton, Ontario
Structure: Detached one-storey house
Problem: Nocturnal attic noises consistent with raccoon activity
Service: Raccoon removal
Visits: 2
Summary
Our team completed a two-visit wildlife removal service after the homeowner reported repeated nighttime noises in the attic. Inspection confirmed raccoon activity, along with secondary squirrel use at the same entry point. Humane one-way doors and exclusion measures were installed, followed by a final confirmation visit to ensure all wildlife activity had ceased.
Background / Property Context
The property is a detached, single-storey house with an elevated wooden deck and sloped terrain around the foundation. Multiple roofline intersections, soffit transitions, and vents were present, creating several potential wildlife access points.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported ongoing sounds in the attic during nighttime hours, raising concern about raccoon presence and possible damage to the roof or attic space.
Inspection & Findings
An exterior and interior inspection identified a softened roofline intersection that had been used as the primary entry point. Evidence indicated that both a raccoon and a squirrel had accessed the attic through this area. Additional vulnerable points included roof and plumbing vents that were accessible from adjacent roof sections.
Photos from the inspection show elevated deck structures, lattice skirting, and roofline intersections that could allow climbing access, as well as soffit and vent areas requiring reinforcement.
Cause Analysis
Raccoons are strong climbers and are commonly attracted to roof intersections and soffit transitions where materials are more flexible or weathered. Elevated decks and nearby trees can provide easy access to rooflines. Shared entry points may also be reused by other wildlife species once compromised.
Treatment / Removal
During the first visit, humane, non-lethal removal measures were implemented. One-way doors were installed at the identified entry points to allow animals to exit without re-entering. Separate exclusion devices were used to address both raccoon and squirrel activity. Roof and plumbing vents were reinforced using galvanized steel vent cages to prevent future access.
All work was completed in accordance with humane wildlife control practices.
Exclusion & Repairs
Following successful exit activity, all vulnerable openings were sealed and reinforced. Galvanized steel screening was installed at vent locations, and previously compromised areas were secured to restore the integrity of the roofline and soffit.
Outcome & Confirmation
On the second visit, the homeowner confirmed that all wildlife activity had stopped. Our team removed the one-way doors and completed a final inspection of the exclusion work. No further signs of raccoon or squirrel activity were observed, and the attic remained quiet after completion.

Technician Notes
The service was handled by Grant, who conducted both the initial inspection and follow-up confirmation visit. All exclusion points were reviewed at completion, and no limitations or access issues were encountered during the work.
